You’ll hear ancient legends passed down through generations, including the Sami word for the aurora: Guovssahas – “the light you can hear.” Learn how Alta became the starting point of modern aurora research thanks to Kristian Birkeland, the pioneering scientist who unlocked the connection between solar storms and this dazzling phenomenon.

Our destination for the evening? That depends on the conditions. We don’t follow a fixed route – instead, we use up-to-the-minute forecasts and our local expertise to chase the clearest skies and highest chances of aurora sightings. Whether we head inland or along the coast, every trip is unique.

Once we arrive at our selected location, you’ll step out into the silence of the Arctic night. Your guide will be by your side throughout the evening, sharing stories, answering your questions, and helping you capture the perfect photo of the aurora. After the tour, we’ll return you to the harbor in time for your cruise departure – warmed by the firelight of Arctic legends and (hopefully) the glow of the aurora.
